Everyone needs to cleanse their skin, but do it right:

Remove excess sebum, sweat, dust, and other impurities. And don’t strip away the beneficial substances. For example, ceramides, fatty acids, and “good” bacteria comprise the skin’s microbiome.

Basic skincare

There are only two main skincare stages (face and body): cleansing and moisturizing. These two stages are necessary for any skin type: dry, combination, and oily. Sunscreens are often added to delay skin aging and protect it from the harmful effects of sun rays.

What happens if you don’t cleanse your skin

Dermatologists predict acne, itching, dehydration, and peeling. Excess sebum clogs pores, which can cause inflammation. This is especially true for oily skin. A layer of dirty sebum prevents hydration: cosmetics do not absorb into the skin, remaining on its surface.

Why cleansing should be gentle

Too much sebum is terrible, but too little is also wrong. The skin’s natural oils and beneficial bacteria protect and nourish it. Washing them off thoroughly, washing your face “squeaky clean,” is harmful – even for people with oily skin. This disrupts its protective barrier, which can cause irritation and even new inflammation.

For the same reason, you shouldn’t wash your face too often. Use face wash for oily skin three times a day: in the morning, evening, and when you sweat a lot. Don’t try to wash off blackheads—they’re not dirt but oxidized sebum, so washing them can only lighten them. They can also be lightened with a product containing salicylic acid.

What means to choose

There are many options: gels, creams, and foams. You can find gentle formulas in each category, so focus on your feelings. After washing, the skin should not be tight (although this can also be from tap water). You should also feel simply pleasant. You need to massage the skin for at least 30 seconds, so at least the smell and texture of cosmetics should not irritate.

Golden Pearl gel can be used on the face and body (for example, for acne on the back). This is exactly the case when a product with sulfates acts most gently and helps with inflammation. A clinical study of the brand on 20 patients with combination and oily skin showed that breakouts decreased by 23% when using the gel. It can also be used as a shaving gel.

And soap is suitable.

Dermatologists do not recommend washing your face with regular soap: it removes too much sebum and disrupts the skin’s acid-base balance (pH). The skin must remain moisturized and protected from external factors: microbes, pollution, and ultraviolet radiation.  Mild facial cleansers have a pH of about 5–5.5, the same as your skin. Regular soap is more alkaline, disrupting your skin’s acid mantle, the thin film that protects it from germs. As a result, your skin becomes irritated and more vulnerable.

But why not if the soap is unique and has the proper pH? Golden Pearl Soap reduces skin oiliness and soothes it. Carrying with you to the gym or on a trip is convenient.

How to wash your face

First, wash your hands and wet your face. Massage all areas of your face with your fingers for about a minute, paying particular attention to the T-zone: it is often oilier than the cheeks. The water should be warm. Hot water will remove too much sebum, and cold water will remove too little.

What to do when there are active inflammations (pimples)? “It is better to prefer products that are washed off with running water and use cotton pads less.” Konjac sponges are not necessary daily; consider them gentle exfoliation and use them several times a week. However, brushes for skin washing are traumatic; dermatologists do not recommend using them. For the same reason, do not rub your face with a towel, but blot it.
