Treat Your Cat as Your Family Member, Not As an Animal

As a cat owner, you may be wondering if you should give treats to your feline friend. After all, who doesn’t like spoiling their pets? However, you need to understand the proper way to provide treats for your cat. Like humans, cats deserve delicious treats, too. But are treats good for your cat? How often should you give them, and what types of treats are best?

The Right Way to Give Treats:

It is essential to give your cat treats in moderation. Feeding your cat too many treats can lead to obesity, and it can lead to other health problems, such as diabetes and heart disease. Treats should be given as a reward for good behavior or as a way to bond with your cat. When giving treats to your cat, be sure to give treats in a controlled environment. Avoid giving your cat treats while it is begging or meowing excessively because doing so will strengthen lousy behavior. Instead, wait until your cat is calm and relaxed before offering treats.

How Many Treats Should Your Cat Have?

The amount of treats your cat should have depends on many factors, such as age, weight and activity level. As a general rule, treats should contain no more than 10% of your cat’s daily caloric intake.  It is essential to keep the size of treats in mind when considering how many to give to your cat. Small treats can be given more frequently than larger treats. This should be given sparingly. As a guideline, you should aim to provide your cat with no more than two to three treats per day.
